How to keep an oxygen sensor claim from being denied

  1. Do not ignore the check engine light. Driving for months with a sensor code can let a small problem foul the converter, and an adjuster may treat the resulting damage as neglect. Act on dashboard warning lights promptly.
  2. Fix the cause, not just the symptom. If oil or coolant killed the sensor, replacing the sensor without fixing the leak guarantees a repeat failure and a second denial.
